Mad Cow Boycott

Boycott all beef!

We are not vegetarians. We are not saying that beef is currently unsafe. Since most beef is never tested, we can't know whether it is safe.

Tip: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays

If you find it hard to completely give up beef, start by cutting it out on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Do not BUY or EAT beef on those days.

When we did the meat boycott in 1973, the idea of not eating meat was strange to most people. There were not as many vegetarians then. We started out the boycott by having people skip all meat on "Tuesdays, Thursdays, and the first full week of April." During February and March, markets saw significant drops in sales on those days as well as an overall drop in sales. Then sales plunged in April. We made real difference. It was years before sales truly recovered. Nixon was forced to take action when he previously said he never would.
